Cross Frame

From WikiPedalia

A cross frame is basically made up of two intersecting members, forming a cross. The vertical member is the seat tube, and, perpendicular to it is a backbone, which might extend and split to form rear stays. This type of frame is not as naturally strong geometrically as the more common diamond frame, so it gets its strength from the use of large diameter tubing, or monocoque construction, particularly for the backbone. There are often gussets or struts added to provide a measure of triangulation to the frame.
