Rain Cape
A special poncho which is tailored to fit a cyclist in riding position, and to avoid tangling in the spokes. It has thumb loops to hold it forward over the handlebars; these may also be looped over the brake levers, so that hand signaling is not impaired. Unlike a conventional poncho, a rain cape does not have a hood which could impair vision when turning the head. A rain cape adds substantial wind resistance. It is open underneath, so the bicyclist does not get soaked in perspiration. In combination with full fenders, a front mudflap and a helmet cover, it does a superior job of keeping a cyclist dry in a warm rain. See our article about fenders and rain riding.[This entry added by John Allen.]
